How to use

How timing works

Evenly spaced frames begin at the start and finish just before the video ends; fixed intervals also begin at 0. A video only stores complete frames at certain instants, so an exact timestamp lands on the nearest frame the browser can decode. A fixed interval is the same as picking an effective frame rate — a 0.5-second interval works out to 2 FPS.

Your video never leaves your browser

Frames are decoded and saved entirely on your device using the browser's own video and canvas features. Nothing is uploaded to a server, there is no account, and none of your footage is tracked. Close the tab and the video and its frames are gone.

Supported video and image formats

Video input

MP4 (H.264) and WebM open reliably in every major browser. MOV, M4V, and OGV files also work when your browser carries the matching codec — support varies by browser as of July 2026. If a file will not open, converting it to MP4 with H.264 video usually fixes it.

Image output

Still images save as JPG or WebP with adjustable quality from 40–100%, or as lossless PNG. Every frame keeps the video's native resolution — a 4K video produces 4K images, never downscaled.

Is this frame extractor free?

Yes — extracting frames here is completely free, with no signup, no account, and no watermark on your images. You can run as many extractions as you like; each run produces up to 100 frames.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no fixed limit, because the video is never uploaded — it plays straight from your disk. The practical limits are your browser's memory and decoder: long or 4K files still work, extraction just takes longer. Keep this tab in the foreground while frames are being extracted.

Are my videos private?

Yes. Decoding and saving happen entirely on your device, and no server ever receives your file. There is nothing to delete afterwards because nothing was uploaded in the first place.

How do I extract just one frame?

Use One timestamp mode. Pause the preview player on the moment you want, enter that time in seconds — milliseconds are allowed — and press Extract frames. The still keeps the video's full resolution.

Do I need to install FFmpeg or VLC?

No — nothing is installed. FFmpeg and VLC can export frames too, but they mean downloading software and learning commands or menu settings. This page does the same job for common formats in one click, on phones and tablets as well as desktops.

Why won't my video open?

The browser could not decode the file's codec. Even a supported container like MOV can hold video a given browser cannot read, and protected or damaged files will not play at all. Converting the clip to MP4 with H.264 video solves this in almost every case.
